Joint Base Langley-Eustis in Virginia offers recreational hunting opportunities for military hunters. Since 2004, military personnel have had access to hunting opportunities at Joint Base Langley-Eustis. Hunting opportunities exist for whitetail deer, small-game, and waterfowl. He also has information about the Alaska Free Licence Program for disabled veterans and military personnel who are not residents.

Permit to hunt small game/fish/fur

To harvest wild mammals, fish or fur, hunters must have a permit to small game hunt/fur harvest. These permits are also required for residents who are on active duty or who are stationed outside of their home state. A resident hunting license can be purchased for as low as $5 by active duty military personnel. After 30 days, military personnel stationed in Montana may purchase a resident hunting permit.

A small game hunt/fish/fur-harvest permit may be available to members of the armed force. To hunt deer, a license that is not lottery-based is required. However, you need to be a resident of the state to qualify. A hunting license is available for $9 if the stationed person is outside of the state. You must provide proof that you are a veteran to be eligible for this licence.

Requirements for hunting licenses

If they have been stationed in the state for at least six months, active duty service members can purchase resident fishing and hunting licenses. To receive discounts, these individuals will need to provide their military ID or deployment papers. Additionally, spouses and children serving in active duty military personnel may be eligible for resident rates to purchase licenses. You may be eligible for a discount if you're an active-duty military member but not a resident of the State.

Additional to the requirement of residency, military personnel also have the right to free hunting or fishing licenses. You might be eligible for a non-lottery or hunting license, depending on what type you're looking for. A military identification card and proof you are serving in the military will suffice. For non-lottery hunting licences, you will need to supply a copy or your military orders along with a $30 check. A copy of your military photo ID is required, along with a photo identification cards.

Veterans with disabilities get a free license

Nearly all states offer a Free Military Hunting License for Disabled Veterans. This program allows active duty military personnel to buy a hunting permit in the state where their station or travels. There is no need for a hunter’s certificate. This program allows disabled veterans the opportunity to experience the traditional traditions of hunting or fishing without the need for expensive courses.

For a free hunting licence, disabled veterans must provide proof of their military service. A retired military card, DD Form 214, or service-connected disability rating are acceptable forms of proof. A state-issued driver’s license is required for veterans with honorable discharge to be eligible for a free license. A majority of states include a Veterans designation on their driver's license. For this benefit, check with your state.

Alaskan requirements for non-resident military personnel

Alaskan residents may not be eligible for service if they are serving in the United States Armed Forces. Non-resident military personnel need to surrender the driver's permit and identification from their home states in order to be eligible. They will also have to apply for a new Alaska driver’s license. When they leave the state, they must surrender their Alaska license to the state they will live in upon returning.

Alaska military reserve members, veterans, and active duty military personnel may be eligible for fishing and hunting licenses at a reduced rate. In addition, disabled veterans may receive licenses at no cost. To be eligible for a license, they must have resided in Alaska for 12 consecutive month and been discharged honorably. If they have been stationed in Alaska for at least two years, they are eligible for free or reduced-rate hunting licenses.
